Sleeping on mission in Iraq has its challenges to say the least; heat, wind, and bugs are a constant fight. However it also offers some humorous photography. These are some photos of my platoon that I took on two separate missions, one at Udari, Kuwait and the other at Scania, Iraq. When we pull into a camp or outpost in Iraq, we have the opportunity to pack all our stuff to the billeting office, (oftentimes very far from where we stage our trucks) and get a tent. However, we are often late at night getting in and exhausted from the road. Therefore more times than not, we simply rack out on the trucks. I find some of the ways these GIs sleep hilarious. --Stacy
Looks like it's going to be another beautiful Arabian morning.
I turn around from taking the above picture...and there's my convoy.
Here's
where I slept the night before, along with all my gear.
This guy just decided to lay down amongst the cargo on his trailer.
A couple guys simply set up cots on the sand.
Then there's
the hammock method,
Another guy sleeping in front of the tandems as I do.
This is probably the most popular method, simply putting your cot on the trailer.
Notice the cold weather sleeping bags the Army issued us in all their wisdom.
This guy
got a little more creative and put up a sun shade.
One of
the more dangerous methods, atop the conex style.
Finally...my
favorite. The on the hood method.
That just doesn't look comfortable does it?
Enjoy your bed tonight. |
