This lane at Ft. Benning is utilized to train deploying soldiers and sailors how to recognize and react to Improvised Explosive Devices, (IEDs) in Iraq.
These have been the number one killer of GIs in the war so the Army is very serious about training us to be aware of them.

Training for Iraq

Iraq Dream Lane for convoy training

Roadside IED,
(notice the wire)IED

Another IED alongside the road,
(the newly disturbed dirt is the give away. Of course it's much more noticeable here at Ft. Benning than it will be in the sands of Iraq).roadside IED

IED in parked car alongside the road,
(notice the blacked out windows)IED in car

IED in a pile of debris,
(Not only does the trash hide the bomb, but adds to its effectiveness by creating shrapnel).IED

IED strapped to a bridge,
When they're this obvious, they're usually a trap. The real danger is probably a few meters back, where the convoy would stop).IED
